November is a lot of things

November is a lot of things: Thanksgiving, Veterans Day and some other really special events.

This is the Month of the Military Family. We’re thankful for our veterans, but also for the families that surround them in active duty AND after military service. “The Weight of Honor” is all about families who are caring for their injured veterans. This month is an especially poignant time for our film and Core Issue Production.

November is also when we are thankfully invited to screen our film at many locations across the country. We’re proud to hold our premieres in Seattle (University of Washington), New Jersey (Stockton University), Parkville (Park University) and Springfield, Missouri, (Missouri State University AND Moxie Cinema), Pittsburgh (University of Pittsburgh), and Maryland (University of Maryland with co-sponsor George Washington University).

[Okay. GWU is in Washington, DC. But they ARE co-sponsors for a screening in College Park, MD that’s for the Greater DC area!]

In all, we’ll have SEVEN public screenings over the course of less than TWO weeks! We love all these institutions which, by showing “The Weight of Honor”, bring more attention to the stories of military family caregiving. Even better, some are purchasing the Educational Licenses we offer for the use of DVD’s of our film in perpetuity!  This will allow professors, students, and other groups to hear the stories of people in the documentary. Thank you!

Go to “The Weight of Honor” website for details about all the screenings being held in November. You might see some familiar faces on the after-the-film panels: Rep. Jim McDermott (ret.) will be in Seattle where he’s a professor at UW; Gina Hill is scheduled to be at ALL the screenings in Missouri; Stephanie will also be in Seattle, and she’ll be joined by Rodger at the event in College Park, MD. Come up and say, “hello,” if you’re there!

And a very big THANK YOU to Shawn Moore and her Kansas City-based non-profit, Caregivers on the Homefront. Shawn wrote and won a significant grant from the Missouri Humanities Council to show “The Weight of Honor” all across the state! Shawn saw our film originally at the Rosalynn Carter Caregiver Summit last year. Since then, she’s brought it to Kansas City and Independence, MO to shed more light on the issues of military caregiving. These events help Caregivers on the Homefront earn donations for their caregiver retreats. It’s a “win” on so many levels!

So we’re thankful for Shawn and so many others who see the benefits of holding screening events for “The Weight of Honor.”

There are more screenings in the works, but let us know if you’d like to bring us to your community, university, or any other group that wants to learn about what it means to be a military caregiver.

All of our team at Core Issue Productions wish you and your families a joyful Thanksgiving.
